In a business where time is precious, you rarely get the chance to make a bad impression twice. Same if you are an average actor with a mediocre demo. If you are a talented voice actor with a crummy demo that you send to a prospective agent, you will probably never get an audience with that agent (unless you can finagle a stellar recommendation from a trusted client at the agency). A poor demo (either performance or production) can make a lasting bad impression and set you back financially and professionally.

Your demo is often your first and only shot at getting the attention of an agent or buyer, so it must be a well-produced showcase of the best of what you do. ItвЂ™ll just be a big waste of time and money. You must be competitive and ready to stand out! If you arenвЂ™t there yet, hold off on making a demo. Your skill and talent and confidence should be at a level that you have something worth showing off. What follows isВ my take on making an animation voice demo, but manyВ of the basic concepts could apply to promo and commercial demos as well:ДЇirst off, you must be ready as a voice actor for it to be worth makingВ a demo. The game is set in Blackpool, but any kind of working class English accent would be okay for most characters, as they are not necessarily from there.

We don't want crazy voices, or what could traditionally be considered cartoony.ДЇor the final game we will require many voices, feel free to apply for as many as you like, if you can do more than one, great - though we very likely will want the main character voice provided by an actor playing no other roles. We are going for a fairly realistic, naturalistic tone with the voice acting. The game will look quite cartoony and be darkly comedic. Depending on your role, this might be a couple of days work, up to a week or so if you are the main character. Should you be chosen for this pitch, and we secure funding, we will very likely get you back to do the game. This will likely take the form of a trailer, taking elements from all parts of the game.ДЄt the moment the game has no concrete funding, so roles at the moment will be unpaid, however we will likely only need you for half a day or so.

We are looking to produce a short video that will showcase the style of the game to aid in pitching to investors. We have had some interest from investors, and are talking to a production company who are interested in publishing the game. Colourless Games are currently making an adventure game for the iPad and iPhone and are looking for talented voice actors to take on leading and supporting roles.
